Creating an Overhead
Quick Workflow
- Open the Overheads view.
- Click Add Overhead on the toolbar or press
Enteron the last row. - Fill:
- Item (e.g. "Site Manager").
- Qty (e.g. 26) and Unit (e.g. "wk").
- Resource (link if you have one; otherwise type a rate).
- Rate (per unit).
- Save — Total computes as
Qty × Rate.
Minimum Required
Just the Item name. Zero-qty / zero-rate overheads work as headers.
Typical Overhead Patterns
| Example | Unit | Qty | Typical rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site Manager | wk | 26 | $3,500 |
| Project Engineer | wk | 26 | $2,800 |
| Site Sheds & Services | mo | 6 | $4,500 |
| Scaffold Hire | mo | 6 | $3,800 |
| Safety Consultant | hr | 120 | $185 |
| Insurance & Bonds | lump | 1 | $22,000 |
Status and Visibility
- Status — same workflow as direct cost items (Draft / Review / Approved / Complete).
- Omit — excludes from all totals.
- IsNotContributing — stays visible in the overhead grid but does not join the pool or receive allocations.
- IsHiddenAndIncluded — hidden from the grid, still apportioned to items (see 05.4).
Categorising
Group overheads using indents (max 6 levels) just like direct costs. Pattern:

Site Management
Project Manager
Site Engineer
Facilities
Sheds
Amenities
Insurances & Bonds
Design & Approvals
Formatting and Formulas
Identical to direct cost items — formatting per row, formulas in Qty / Rate / Total / custom columns.
